5 Amazing Things The Best Bridal Clients Have

I’ve been in the hair game for a little over 10 years. I’ve decided to go niche and only focus on bridal in 2013.There are a ton of reasons why I made this decision. I’ve performed my best with some of the nicest brides and many have turned into friends and close associates. I’ve developed more meaningful relationships at weddings than I did in the salon and that is mostly why I transitioned.

In the midst of working double digit weddings year round, I noticed common characteristics among every bride I’ve had a smooth experience with. I am proud to say that 95% of the brides I work with are all of these things and more:

I have had a nice share of well organized bridal clients. Each person was prompt and thorough. It made the booking process as well as the prep day easier. Deposits were paid. Schedules were followed. We took care of each other.

As a bride, it’s important to make sure you are not stressed out on your wedding day. It’s also important to relieve stress from your bridal party as well as your beauty artists leading up to the day of the wedding. That means making sure there is a schedule to stick to if you’re not working with a wedding planner.

If you are working with a wedding planner, he/she should ask for all of the vendor’s numbers and email addresses, including the hair and makeup pros. If not give it to them. Your wedding planner should work with each business owner to make sure your entire wedding day stays organized.

Proactive Habits

Being proactive is not the same as being organized. You can be proactive with gathering all the details and fail at execution. It happens. Go back to the first point; organization. As you gather quotes and make final decisions, you’ll need to understand each vendor’s process. Here are a few things to consider:

  • How long does it take them to set up?

  • When can they start decor at the venue?

  • Where will the prep location be the day of the wedding for your beauty artists to set up?

  • How long do the beauty artists take to complete one job? Then, consider the amount of people they will be working on.

There are a ton of things to do to stay proactive and organized. And, if you are an “organized choas” then get help from someone who can help you stay ahead of time and on track. Be sure to have your final payments ready and organized as well. The day of the wedding can get hectic and I’ve personally had to hunt a bride down for final payment. Never again.

Patience is one that I come across more often than I thought when I work with brides. I can’t speak for any other professional. Every bride that I have had an amazing bridal experience with was patient. Every. Last. One.

Finding that perfect look and having it perfected in a trial run will give you more patience on your wedding day. It lessens worry or uncertainty. I understand that brides may not be able to invest in a trial. For example, brides who aren’t from Texas, or the Dallas-Fort Worth area, can’t do a trial run. They just have to go off of faith that things go as planned. But, if your beauty artists are local, I encourage you to do a trial run before your bridal portraits and wedding day, if you’ll have a different look. It will save you a ton of guessing and hoping.

Not only does patience do your health well, but it helps others avoid mistakes and anxiety when working with you. An artist that isn’t nervous, but confident, will perform well. Make it easier on everyone involved!

Sometimes things don’t always go as planned. There are brides who have a vision in their head, but when the vision is performed, they learn that they don’t like what they see. It isn’t the artists fault nor the bride. It happens for several reasons. For example, a makeup color may not complement a bride’s skin tone or jewelry. Or, a hair style may not be suitable for the bride’s hair accessory or headpiece.

Having a successful experience means being flexible when things don’t turn out as planned. The best bridal clients are flexible when this happens. They go back to the drawing board. They rely on their beauty artists and wedding vendors to help them make the best decision for their big day!

This characteristic is a hit or miss because of many personality variances, but a bride who’s determined to get exactly what she wants and is willing to pay for it is also one of the best clients to work. Again, execution and less stress is the goal for every wedding professional. It benefits the bride tremendously and her bridal party.

I’ve worked with brides who didn’t make a huge fuss about much, especially when it came to the cooperation of their bridal party. On the other hand, I’ve worked with brides who weren’t playing with their bridal party. Everyone had to be on one accord or someone will not make the wedding.

I love these brides as well because it is reassurance that they have your back as an artist. They make sure you are okay the entire time you’re together. They make sure no one is being unnecessarily difficult. A determined bride will get what she wants and protect her people while doing it. You can’t beat that!

All of these characteristics are the best bridal clients to work with because they understand their needs before, during, and after their wedding day. They understand the importance of hiring the right people to get the job done. They also know that less stress on them means a better wedding experience for everyone!
